We are super excited to have a new farm partner, Fox Plot Farm in La Fox.  In addition to supplying us, they'll have a booth at the Geneva Green Market, so check them out.

The farm is run by our good friends Nate (above) and Sarah (below).  Nate has actually been growing for us for a few years, but with his fiance Sarah on the payroll now, things are really blowing up!

They'll be growing, among other things, cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli, tuscan kale, hot and sweet peppers, lots of tomatoes, eggplants, garlic, peas and potatoes.  Nate reports that they have started literally thousands of plants.  Plus...

... their BEES just arrived, so there will some tasty honey at some point.

These tiny beet sprouts are just screaming, Spring, aren't they?  Finally!!!  

And while it'll be a month or so before any of the local produce starts trickling in, the shop is filled with amazing food RIGHT NOW, so STOP IN TODAY!!!

Valentines Day has been a long standing favorite among the staff here at Moveable Feast.  Maybe all the pinks and purples and reds and roses have gone to our heads, but that’s exactly what we’ve been filling our case with - the colors of love! 

From Cherry Pie Squares to Rose-Scented Fairy Tales, Heart-Shaped cut out Cookies and Brownies galore, we’ve got you covered.  We’ve filled the shop with the kinds of food and gifts that we’d like to receive ourselves (and yes, that means tons of Wine and Champagne).  If sweets aren’t your thing, don’t forget about our great selection of Artisan Cheeses, Salads, Meats, and Take-Home Meals!

“Deck the Halls with boughs of holly fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la.” This has been the motto here at Moveable Feast as we transform the store into a holiday wonderland. The wreaths are hung, the holiday menus are out and holiday goodies fill the store.We have all of the holiday essentials to save you time and energy, allowing you to focus on your family and friends.

Here’s a helpful timeline to keep you right on track as the holiday’s quickly approach:

One week before Thanksgiving:

Place your order for Thanksgiving before Saturday, November 20. Our Thanksgiving menu offers traditional sides, appetizers and desserts with a few unique options as well.  One of our most popular items on the Thanksgiving menu is our Gravy made with triple- reduced roasted turkey stock and thickened with roux.

The Weekend after Thanksgiving:

Skip the rush of the stores and malls and head to Moveable Feast to get your holiday shopping done. Moveable Feast Gift cards make the perfect gift for any foodie in your life. We also offer a variety of cookbooks so you can avoid the long lines at the bookstore.  If you usually leave your kids stocking stuffers to the last minute, get it done in a flash with our selection of cute candies perfect for kids of any age.

 

The month of December:

Let us cater your holiday party.  Our Fall/Winter catering menu features a wide variety to choose from whether you’re just looking for appetizers or a full meal. Some popular choices include:

Flatbreads: We offer two flavorful flatbreads that make the perfect appetizer for any party.

-Garlic onion jam, smoked bacon, blue cheese & rosemary
-Roasted tomato, prosciutto, arugula, fontina & fresh mozzarella

Small bistro sandwiches served on buttery brioche rolls. A few options include:

-Roasted turkey with gruyere cheese and sliced apple

-Sliced beef tenderloin with horseradish mustard sauce

-Our homemade chicken salad

For dessert our super moist carrot cake with maple cream cheese frosting is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Of course,you can always stop by the shop to find a daily selection of entrees, salads, casseroles and sweets. However, case items are hit or miss and can sell out at any point of the day. If there is an item you definitely want, it’s a good idea to pre-order it.  We are also proud to offer a full cheese case that offers a variety of local cheeses, a delicious selection of crackers, and a variety of Stonewall Kitchen jams, spreads, salsas and mixes.

Ten Fall Essentials at Moveable Feast

Before we know it Thanksgiving will be here and snow will be covering the grass. Time is flying by, but there are still plenty of fall memories to be made.  At Moveable Feast we want you to have the best fall possible, while still leaving plenty of time for you to enjoy the comfort of the season.

To give you an idea of what he are doing to celebrate the season here is a list of ten fall essentials you can find at our retail location in Downtown Geneva:

10) Stonewall Kitchen Jams and Spreads:  From maple applesauce to pumpkin pie filling the Stonewall line of products are always great additions to your kitchen pantry.  They also make fall entertaining a breeze, whether you are hosting or need a quick hostess gift.

9) Wines- Nothing is more comforting on a chilly fall night than dinner at home and a glass of wine. Moveable Feast is proud to offer a wonderful variety of wines all at an affordable price.  Whether you are looking for wine to entertain with or just a bottle to have with dinner, our wine aficionado’s would be glad to help you pick the best wine for the occasion.

8) Cookbooks- If you want to spend time in the kitchen this fall, our cookbook selection will provide plenty of inspiration. They also make great holiday gifts, allowing you to avoid the holiday rush.

7) Cheeses-  Our owner Kim has discovered local cheeses from all over the country and is proud to offer the wonderful selection at the shop. Check out our cheese case and feel free to ask any of our employees for assistance.

 
 
6) Soup- Are you tired of same old soups? Our resident soup maker, Chris, is making soups everyday full of flavor and comfort.  Try the velvety smooth butternut squash or roasted tomato basil with fennel.

5) Trick or Treat Goodies- Kids and adults alike will love our adorable trick or treat candy bags. Every bag offers a funny saying that will be the perfect fun treat for your kid’s lunch bag.

4) Gift packages- We would be glad to help you put together a fall gift bag of our chocolates, jams and spreads. Tied off with a pretty ribbon it will make the perfect gift for any foodie in your life.

3) Tea breads-Our tea breads are a perfect addition to Sunday morning brunch or an afternoon snack. With flavors like cranberry cream cheese and pumpkin, it won’t be long before you are coming back for more.

The Return of Fall Favorites

  
 
Labor day may be the offical end of summer and start of fall for most, but at Moveable Feast  the offical start of fall begins when our classic fall favorites return to the shop. All of you pumpkin lovers out there better save room for dessert-  the amazing Pumpkin Rocks are back in the case!
 
The pumpkin rock is a soft, moist cake- like cookie filled with raisins and currants, topped with a decadent cream cheese frosing, sprinkles and of course candy corn. Don't let fall go by without trying one.

If pumpkin is not your thing, we have plenty of fall treats for you to enjoy this season.

Crisps and cobblers- Nothing expresses fall comfort like a homemade apple crisp.

Warm soups- Our signature soup maker, Chris, is whipping up plenty of soups this fall. Occasionally you may find a classic Chicken Noodle Soup or roasted tomato with herbs ( a personal favorite) but keep an eye out for some of his more inventive creations this fall.

Maple Fairy tales- A spin on our original fairy tale includes maple extract, instead of the signature almond extract! A perfect afternoon treat.

As you regular Feaster's know any day can be filled with a new wonderful treat.

Eat, Relax and Enjoy- A Summer Motto

It’s hard to believe summer is already half over.  Over at Moveable Feast we have been savoring the true spirit of the season. Whether it’s an impromptu barbeque, an afternoon picnic or just a night with friends and family we want your summer entertaining to be as carefree as the season.

 Some of our favorite seasonal dishes include:

Caprese Salad- This classic Italian salad features seasonal Heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, basil, red onion and bite size balls of mozzarella.  Dressed in a light vinaigrette that brings all the flavors together, it’s a perfect summer salad.

Mango Jicama Slaw- A favorite salad perfect for an afternoon at the beach.  If you have never heard of Jicama, it’s a root vegetable widely used in Mexican dishes that has a sweet and refreshing flavor.  It easily blends with other ingredients making it the perfect match for juicy mango slices, sweet cherry tomatoes, and a light dressing of lime juice in our Mango Jicama Slaw.

Fresh corn salad with Avocado and Tomato- Summer is not complete without enjoying some fresh sweet corn. Sliced right off the cob, our salad blends the creaminess of avocado with the sweetness of the corn and tomatoes. We add some onion for a little kick and finish it off with a little lime juice. There is no doubt you will want to come early for this salad, because it goes quick.

 

Of course, a meal is not complete without a little something sweet. With all of the fresh berries in season we don’t hesitate to utilize the natural sweetness in a variety of our desserts, including mixed berry tea breads, pie squares and cookies.

We already know Michelle Obama has a great wardrobe, but now you have the opportunity to judge her taste buds. Not only have we given our seal of approval, but we can already tell you Oprah and  brownie-lovers across the country have as well.

The brownies well- known as Oprah’s favorite, are currently on their way to being a deeply fudgey treat for Sasha and Mahlia Obama.  The Obama’s found out about Moveable Feast during their days on the campaign trail and we’re very happy to hear they want to have us in the White House as well.

 

What makes these brownies so popular is their ability to live up to the name of deeply fudgey brownies.  It delivers the perfect balance between fudge and a brownie, creating a decadent chocolate experience. Yet, what we love most about our brownies is the joy they bring to people everyday. Whether it’s watching a child get chocolate all over their face or seeing them disappear at a holiday party, these brownies truly deliver a universal joy.

If you live nearby Geneva,Illinois the simplest way to get your hands on a brownie is to just stop by the shop Tuesday through Saturday where brownies are served fresh everyday.  At the shop we feature them by the pound with or without nuts, or individually cut in our pastry case. You can also inquire at the shop about our brownie gift boxes, which feature 2lbs of brownies with and without nuts, perfect for the holiday season.

Of course, if you don’t live that close everything can be done on-line.  On our webpage we feature all of our brownie packages, plus some specialty gift baskets featuring other gourmet items from the shop.

Fall is here….

 

 Soup is on the way and pumpkin rocks are lining the dessert case.  Fall has returned to Moveable Feast with all of the essential flavors.  Whether you are planning a party or simply looking for an afternoon treat, we’re here to help make this fall extra special.  If a sweet tooth is your weakness keep your eyes open for these seasonal delights-  

·        Pumpkin rocks- a moist pumpkin cookie with currants and raisins, topped with cream cheese frosting. YUM

·       Maple fairy tales- this delicious twist on the classic fairy tale features a sweet taste of maple in the cookie as well as the frosting.  Is your mouth watering yet?

·       Pumpkin-butterscotch tea breads- if you have never tasted the combination of pumpkin and butterscotch than this tea bread is a must.

·       Caramel- apple rice pudding- the name says it all for this one.

On the savory side our creamy five- cheese macaroni will be the perfect dinner for chilly fall nights. Of course, you can expect to see sweet potatoes being prepared in a variety of ways and salads full of leafy greens to keep you going this fall.
